This place is one big party. There is a bullhead wearing a hat on the wall so you know what goes down here. Hacienda doesn't really have authentic Mexican food but more of an American fusion which is chill. You can't go wrong with America and if you say otherwise you should shut your commie mouth. My favorite thing to eat here is the wet burrito. It's like a rolex of the restaurant world. This ain't no gas station burrito. Beware of gold diggers when you eat the wet burrito because they will know you are raking in the dough. I would suggest a flavorful drink pairing with this dish. A lemonade would be the best choice. This place is by far the fanciest restaurant I've ever been in and will definitely go here again. Great place for anniversaries, wedding rehearsals and baby showers.

Hacienda is a safe choice in the south bend/mishawaka area. Most people have been eating hacienda for decades. It's a comfortable, familiar place for social gathering. But when you stop to think about what you're eating, its nothing spectacular. It certainly isn't authentic. The chips are OK, salsa is pretty gross. The guac is alright. I normally get the black bean wet burrito without the dairy, and its pretty flavorless. Last night I modified a taco salad (no meat/cheese, added beans and rice), and it was decent.

I like this South Bend South Side location for it's atmosphere, above anything else. The patio is a good place to meet friends or family and catch up. The chips and salsa are a nice touch. If you've never been to Hacienda, almost everyone orders a side of ranch with the chips and salsa. The menu, to me, is Tex-Mex Comfort Food. The servers are willing to make diet accommodations, which is helpful. The location is good for small or large groups. Good daily food and drink specials.

The food is bland. I won't even comment on what I ate. The salsa is tomato paste with a little more water added to it.

This is not authentic Mexican food. It's American Mexican. They don't even know what menudo is when I asked if they have it. My husband likes going here for the chips and salsa. The only thing I order here is the strawberry daiquiri. I don't like any of their food. I just agree to go here if I feel I've been denying my husband's request for too long already hehe. Steak is dry too. I've tried different choices from their menu in desperation to find something I'd enjoy when going with my husband. The Chicken taco salad is tolerable. I think this place is overrated. Go here if you want to wear a sombrero (hat) and have them sing for your birthday.

I'm from Texas so there are just a few things on the menu that I like. The fettuccine Fernando is one that is my go to. They make a great Long Island iced tea as well!

Waiter was slow but it was packed. Now enjoying frozen long island ice tea and dos equis amber. Nice atmosphere and food was worth the wait. Taste of hacienda was a good choice. I had the shredded pork and it reminds me of mexican style carnitas.

I got the wet burrito that my friends from this area would rave about....meh. I was not too impressed. The food was bland, the beer selections were strictly American and a couple imports, not that impressive. Really the chips and salsa were the best part of the whole experience. I can honestly say I would be okay if I never went here again.

This place is okay. Mostly for the atmosphere. I'm from so cal and so the food here is far from Mexican...I would describe it as okay tex mex. I ordered a salad and it sucked. Their margaritas are what they are known for and usually they make me sick... the chips are good. The fish tacos are good...but overall if I had another option I'd definitely take it!

We eat at Hacienda at least once a week. The food is great! Not authentic but good stuff. The chips and salsa are habit forming. I find myself being drawn back to them like an addiction. The margaritas are outstanding. They recently added quite few craft beers. Pricing is very reasonable and service is quite good.

Went there to meet friends. The bar area is a good size and able to accommodate bigger parties. Decided to have the Nachos Fiesta. Yuck!! Hardly any cheese on them at all. Overcooked, dry ground beef. Tiny little cup of sour cream, not nearly enough for the portion size of the nachos. Oh yeah, a big pile of lettuce in the middle. Overpriced too. It was just terrible.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why everyone loves this place. I think that it is dreadfully bad. Yet, every time I drive by here, the parking (and even adjacent parking lots) are jammed full of cars. People are waiting 30-45 minutes to get tables to shovel this crap in their mouths. Perhaps the worst treachery was a few months back where some friends not seen in a long time said "Hey, we know this great little Mexican place. Follow us!" and I found myself in the parking lot of Hacienda. My wife had to drag into the place kicking and screaming. I don't want to sound like a drama queen, but nothing here is good. My extended family eats here so often (for birthdays, etc) that I have to experiment to find food that I don't find positively revolting or that makes me violently ill during/afterwards. I can understand the free chips and salsa, and the cheap margaritas, so if that's all you like this place for, don't be offended. But the food is just beyond abysmal. South Bend/Elkhart, please! PLEASE! Patronize better Mexican/Tex-Mex food. It certainly exists. This has just got to stop.

I have NO IDEA how the parking lot is always packed . I have been dragged here against my own will many times and force myself to eat this garbage. Salsa is EXTREMELY hot and watery, Chips are often greasy and staleThey are "famous" for there wet burrito's but they are usually undercooked, and are drenched with there oily enchalada sauce. .Wait staff is sub-par at best. Margaritas are often syrupy and contain little to no alcohol. The price is decent but there are a half dozen better options when looking for Mexican food in the area.

Run! The food is horrible. I should have known when the salsa for the chips tasted like ketchup. My chicken enchilada tasted like a chicken pot pie, and not a very good one. Run away!

I travel quite a bit with a bunch of college students & we've come to regard Mexican as the go to cuisine for dinner. So of course when I found out we were traveling to South Bend, I made sure to ask around & find a good Mexican restaurant. This place came highly recommended - but I couldn't have been more disappointed. Maybe I'm spoiled by the many Mexican restaurants Columbus has to offer - or maybe South Bend just wouldn't know a great enchilada if it tried. We had to send the queso back twice. Every time it returned to the table cold. The margarita selection was very limited: regular, strawberry, or flavor of the day. What about some watermelon, orange, blue, etc? I stuck with my old favorite: chicken enchiladas. Can't go wrong, right? Well they did. Cheese covering the top. Dry chicken on the inside. No sauce. No onions. Nothing. And mine appeared to be the most appetizing of the 10 dishes at our table. The quesadillas looked like rubber. Same cheese covering the top, dry meat on the inside plus watery tortilla? Needless to say I will not be thanking those who recommended Hacienda to me.

This place is WAY overrated. The margaritas are good but the hostesses are TERRIBLE. I made a reservation for 15 people at 2pm. When I arrived, they acknowledged the reservation. However, we weren't seated until 2:30pm! I approached the hostess twice. The first response I received was, "They are still setting up your table." Understandable, OK. The second time I inquired the response was, "They are just putting the chips and salsa on the table." Ooookkaaayyy. FINALLY, they called our party 30 minutes after the reservation time and (wait for it)..... there were no chips and salsa on the table. They lied to me. NEVER GO THERE FOR A PARTY. Not worth the frustration and mediocre food. They also need to understand what a reservation means.

For all you leaving negative reviews of Taco Bell (I mean Hacienda) , I suggest you negatively review the idiots who sent you to Hacienda claiming it "Great Mexican food". For the uneducated, illiterate masses (food wise), it is indeed that. If you want decent Mexican food try La Esperanza on Ironwood Rd in South Bend, or La Esperanza on Jackson Blvd in Elkhart. Or- El Parasio on South Michigan in South Bend.

Waited a half hour for a burrito..... should have at least been hot, right?.... wife and I agree that food that doesn't at least meet industry standards we will not give our hard earned money for... Paid the waitress her tip and told the manager we refuse to pay for slop Go somewhere else!!!

I lived in South Bend for a few years, attending school. I have family from the area, so I was aware of Hacienda. Also, when people found out I was moving to SB, everyone was all recommending Hacienda. Like obnoxiously so. This is definitely tex-mex, or even almost American food. I went multiple times when I lived in SB. I liked the enchiladas. On my most recent visit I had a soft taco and chicken enchilada. Of note: everything comes out with melted cheese on top. Like everything. Actually, the food was better flavored than I remembered. The chicken had good spicing. The taco was ok. I ordered crunchy, and got soft. Was not impressed with the guacamole. They are known for their "wet burrito," but I've never had that either! Next time?? On the other hand, my margarita was amazing. I had forgotten about how good they are. So good. Seriously. I wish I knew what mix they use. Also, they ask you if you want ranch with your chips. If this isn't Americanized, I don't know what else would be. I'm not a ranch fan, but I have been told by friends that their ranch is really good!

I grew up in northern Indiana, and absolutely love Hacienda. I will admit, their menu as a whole is not stellar, and the food is less authentic and more chain Tex-Mex. But I'm not looking to compare this place with a meal I had in Cabo, nor do I expect to be wowed like a dish I would have from Adobo grill in Indianapolis. What I'm looking for is cheap, local Tex-Mex, and mountains of chips with salsa and ranch! Aside from the chips, other highlights include the wet burritos and the chimichanga. Everything else is so-so. If you're unsure, I recommend going during lunch to take advantage of their cheap specials.

This is a great place to be! If you walk in you,ll feel like your at Mexico. Best food ever like chips and salsa for example, or a bar for beer. Good service for anything you want, and good desert. sorry that Im putting this out of order, but back to food and service! So if you want food, you will have to pay twice of your money for food :p, and the parking is always packed because of good food. Some times its empty in noon time. Now party stuff! Really fun song and you get a hat on your b-day. Also you get desert for your wonderful day! That is all I have. Oh and try the chips, they are good.

Hacienda: the Applebee's of "Mexican" food. Translation: if you like paying too much money for mediocre food, and then forgetting how bad it is by losing your face in a huge alcoholic drink, then you'll love Hacienda. I personally don't understand the appeal of this place, but it really rings the bell for many doughy South Bend residents. My husband makes better "Mexican" food, and he's a white boy from Wisconsin.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
